According to the panel, the outfits were a part of the Corellian Corps group. Han's outfit showed red marks on his pants, which were a part of a military uniform. Williams also added that he was a General, though this could have been a nod to his time as a rebel General in Return of the Jedi. While the explanation for why the uniforms were the same made more sense, the book Star Wars Made Easy gave its own explanation that appeared to be in the same militaristic vain as the first one.
According to the book, "It's been suggested that the outfit is the remnant of a flight uniform, and so a natural choice for any pilot. But really, what better way for the filmmakers to suggest that Han is really gone than to set Lando up in his replacement, complete with his ship and fashion sense? It was never meant to mean anything significant. Youtube video. Improve this answer. Moogle Moogle The host's "real answer" doesn't make any sense grammatically. I don't understand what his point is.
After listening to this a million times, I finally understand what he's saying: Mollo decided to put Lando in a costume and didn't mean anything by it; Harrison and Lando weren't even the same size, so it wasn't literally the same set of clothes, just a similar set. The first sentence doesn't seem to make logical sense ignoring the grammatical problems with it. How is the part of the sentence that comes before the word "as" explained by the part of the sentence that comes after it?
Hack-R he's saying that as they were different sizes, it wasn't the actual clothes that Han wore. And the grammatical problems are because I transcribed it word for word, and he was thinking on the spot and rewording his answer mid sentence.
That's probably "Corellian Corps", not "Core", given the army connection. Add a comment. Alchemus Alchemus 1 1 silver badge 4 4 bronze badges.
So only bad guys wear capes in Star Wars? Concerning capes on the Falcon, when Lando owned her he had a wardrobe on there stocked with capes, there is definitely a place for them on board - both literally and figuratively.

With a loyal fanbase that has accumulated over forty years, the obsession with all this content is real. However, that does not mean there are not things that people miss, or that people just do not notice or pay attention, even if they get hidden in plain sight throughout the movies. Whether it be one scoundrel wearing another's clothes, or something more obscure, they definitely exist.
Often heralded as the best movie Star Wars has to offer, The Empire Strikes Back introduces some of the franchise's best characters from the Emperor to Yoda to Lando Calrissian himself. By the end of the film, when in the Falcon, Lando is wearing Han's clothes. Just why he is doing this is anybody's guess.
Maybe he forgot to pack, maybe Chewie wanted him to, or maybe it was payback for Han making out in his cape closet. From Vader to little pieces of connectivity, the movie added a good bit. One thing it did, which can easily go unnoticed, is that it kills of Red Five.
This death may seem insignificant, but A New Hope sees Luke join the rebellion, and on the Death Star trench run, he gets given the call sign Red Five.
It's from the old army basically, so it's the same uniforms. The "real" answer means that Lando was simply more conservatively dressed than usual; the style is indeed more befitting of Han's rugged personality than the incredibly suave, cape-wearing Lando Calrissian. While the answer may clear up one question, it creates many more, like why Han Solo of all people is traveling around in an army uniform, why Lando would take the time to snag his own prior to departing Cloud City, why he'd wear it when he's preparing to go undercover, and why he doesn't wear it again in Return if the Jedi , where he's actually a general.
Given Billy Dee Williams specifically mentions being a general in his answer, it's possible, though unlikely, that he misunderstood the question and was referring to Return of the Jedi.
