He then tells Bilbo that he would like to show him something, so he goes back to his little island where he usually hides his ring. When he realises that the ring is not there he freaks out. Gollum comes back to Bilbo and questions what he has in his pockets. Bilbo then slips on the ring making him invisible. One of the Goblins guarding sees a shadow near the gate, while Bilbo is stuck. The Goblin then tells everyone, yet Bilbo just escaped breaking the buttons on his coat. They would of been relive that there burglar was still alive and well, plus confused that he got out of the Goblin realm without getting hurt.

To evade this attack party, Beorn recommends that the group take the northern pass the elf path through Mirkwood, which will bring them near the Lonely Mountain. The northern pass is not entirely safe either, so Beorn repeatedly warns his guests never to stray from the path. From there, however, they must return the ponies and travel on foot. When they reach the path, Gandalf also departs, wishing his friends the best and reminding them never to stray from the path—dark things lurk in Mirkwood that even the wizard does not know about.

They would have been shocked at first when Bilbo just appeared in their camp. Then they would have been surprised that Bilbo managed to escape from the goblins.
